Communication

Communication between beavers has several forms. The most famous is the ‘tail slap’ to the ground that warns of things like a predator or a falling tree.  Some less well-known forms of communication include the head nod, the ‘shooter mcgavin’, and ‘low five’, all signs of appreciation.  But nearly all beavers shun the telephone, as it is difficult to install in an underwater den.
